...this was not the post I planned on writing tonight, but it is all I can think about right now. I am so grateful to live in a country where I can help decide who will lead us. My problem is that in this election I really can't get excited about any of the candidates. (I even read the bios of the "other" candidates.) Jeff keeps telling me not to stress about it because my vote doesn't matter in Oregon anyway (yes, please razz him about this attitude!), but I really want to use my right to vote. A right that has been fought for by selfless soldiers for over 200 years. I would list all my reasons for liking or disliking Obama and/or McCain, but I don't want to turn this into a political forum. So, for now, I will get back to reading different articles and try to make an informed decision. Wish me luck!
And then I will go watch the SNL Political Bash. :-)

Good luck, Kel! (And I'll definitely give Jeff a hard time for his attitude!) Actually, your vote does count, because if the winner is up by more than 52% or so in the popular vote, then he has a clear mandate, and apparently that helps convince Congress to pass legislation on his agenda...although Bush never had a clear mandate and yet governed like he did, hmmm... Okay, I'm not helping, am I? Sorry! And yes, please vote!
Kelly, that was me you left that comment, not Bugman. He's not as into politics as I am. ;)
Um, I meant to say "that was me WHO left that comment" and not "me YOU left that comment"...
let's see, what else can I do to thoroughly confuse you?
Vote McCain--at least he's against abortion--that's seals it for me!
Good luck deciding. I was going to do a political post on my blog, but I didn't want my personal blog to become a political forum either. All I can do is research the candidates (and by this I don't mean listening to tv and radio ads) and cast my vote for who I think will do the best job. It's a tough choice this election.
As an Alaskan, from Wasilla, I have to say I was a bit disappointed in the candidates as well...I have to say my decision came down to who was more committed to protecting the family. Now I'm just praying that if McCain wins, he doesn't die before his term is up...Sarah Palin...uggh.
Pro-life rights are indeed important, but so are so many other things that the US president has control of that affect hundreds of millions of people across the globe. Why do you think the whole entire world is on pins and needles about this election right now? I'm proud of you for considering multiple factors, whatever your final choice may be!
You know, we never did have any e-mail discussions about this!! :)
I finally had to decide who I was voting AGAINST. Deciding who I was voting FOR was making me crazy.
While I didn't find any sort of peace with my decision, I have finally settled on being ok with either outcome. I think. ;)
I'm totally there with you, Kelly. I didn't decide until this morning and even then I wasn't sure. There are so many things to consider and then trying to figure out which of those is the most important to you, which will matter, what they will actually do vs. what they say they will do.... And then what will they actually be able to pass with Congress?
I have reservations about both candidates. It bothers me that Obama is not pro-life (and doesn't support prop 8 in CA), but I don't think you can hinge an entire election on one issue, even one that is so important, especially when our country has so many things going wrong right now, domestically and internationally. It bothers me that McCain is pro-war, that he is known for having a temper, for the way he campaigned against Romney, etc.... So that's why I went back and forth.
